Custom Sublimation Printing

Vibrant, full color, all-over prints with no setup fees.

Dye Sublimation is a printing technique that allows for full color, all-over apparel prints. Your artwork is printed onto a sheet of high-release paper and transferred onto your apparel using heat and pressure. Heat converts the solid dye particles into a gas — known as sublimation — and bonds them to the polyester fibers. Unlike screen printing, the dye is absorbed by the fabric for a fantastic, soft-to-the-hand feel

Expected Results

Sublimation is an amazing process that allows for vibrant, full color, all-over prints.
However, it’s not magic — our cadre of on-staff sorcerers are working to rectify that.
Until then, expect imperfections from the process, especially around seams and folds.

Single-Sided Prints

Single-sided prints will show the bare garment color on the non-printed side. Typical sublimation apparel is only available in white. Single-sided prints will clearly show the unprinted side if you use the full print area.

Smudges & White Streaks

Expect to have smudges, blurs and creasing near edges, seams and collars. When printing flat artwork onto a constructed garment, it’s impossible not to have some imperfections, particularly under the arm.

Design Within These Limitations

Artwork that embraces these limitations works best and enhances the look of the shirt. Patterns or graphics strategically placed in problem areas can help hide any imperfections and smudges from your customer.

Shifting On Press

Images shift up to 2″ on press and are not able to be aligned front-to-back. Keep this in mind when designing. Color blocking or trying to line up graphics with apparel seams may produce unsatisfactory results.

Multiple Templates

Include print files for every garment size in your order. Since tees don’t scale evenly, we’re unable to use the same artwork across multiple sizes.

Web Images

Be careful using images from the Internet. High-quality prints require raster artwork that’s at least 150 dpi. Low resolution files can look great on screen but print blurry or jagged.

File Setup

Proper file setup ensures that your files print as you intended without production delays.

File Requirements

Sublimation File Guidelines

  • You must include print files for every garment size in your order.
  • PDF files must be layered and editable.
  • Artwork should be saved in CMYK Color Mode.
  • Make sure your artwork bleeds over any edges, including the collar. Prints can shift up to 2″ on press.
  • Ensure that all raster files (or linked images) are built at 300 ppi.
  • All art should be at the exact size you want it to appear.
  • Rasterize or Outline any type layers.
  • All artwork must come on the Jakprints templates. Do not flatten your artwork onto the template layers.
  • If your files do not meet these requirements, please consult with your Account Manager to discuss other options.
